New Captain for the Special Region
Reza Rajasa has taken the helm as the new captain of the Provincial board for the Special Capital Region of Jakarta of the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI DKI Jakarta). He will form a management team with a millennial spirit to help promote golf as a sport to young people.
The Special Capital Region of Jakarta held a conference on January 19 and appointed Reza Rajasa as the new chairman for 2020 – 2024. The conference was attended by almost 100 participants and full-delegates who had voting rights.
Before the final decision was made on the election of a new chairman, two candidates fulfilled the requirements for the election, Reza and Joyada Siallagan. However, in the evening, Joyada decided to withdraw from the nomination.
“My consideration is only one: how we together realize the same vision and mission for the advancement of golf in DKI Jakarta, producing the best athletes for the national team,” said Joyada. “I will offer my team, who has commitment and professionalism, to join a new board.”
As the new chairman, Reza faces some tough tasks. He must work out a way to use Jakarta as a barometer for developing Indonesian golf and as a source of production for potential and outstanding Indonesian golf athletes. Connected to this is the second aim of developing junior golfers.
“The first step that will be taken in the next 100 days [of the] program is to activate clubs in Jakarta to find and prepare junior golfers that they will develop. We will ask clubs to be active in developing golf in Jakarta,” said Reza. “I will form a management with a millennial spirit to socialize golf as a sport that can attract the market of young people.”
