Mixed - Team Event Could Be Around the Corner

The PGA Tour has hinted that a mixed-team event with the PGA Tour and LPGA players may not be far away. The PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic team golf event was what inspired the mixed team idea.

According to Golf Channel, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan let on that it is only “a matter of time” before such an event is created. “We’re very interested in getting the men and women together inside the ropes in the same week and in the same competition,” Monahan said. “I think that’s something you’ll see in the future.”

Historically, the last story of mixed-team events dates back to the 1960  Haig & Haig Scotch Foursome. Since that, there’s been no official tournament where men and women have played on one team.

The LPGA is in favor of creating a new mixed-team event. “I think for both of us the idea wasn’t to essentially blow-up an event you have, but to create something new,” said LPGA commissioner Mike Whan, as quoted by GolfWeek.

Now, golf fans are hoping that the PGA Tour will introduce some form mixed-team presence on their schedule. The golf world is eagerly awaiting the PGA’s decision.
