Golf Approved For 2024 Olympics
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided that golf will be included in the Olympic Games 2024. Golf is one of 27 sports from last summer’s Games which were recommended by the executive board of the International Olympic Committee for the 2024 Games. The inclusion was approved at the 130th IOC session.
“It puts the icing on the cake. We had a great Games and proved that golf has a place in the Olympics,” said Antony Scanlon, the executive director of the International Golf Federation, which oversees golf in the Olympics, as quoted by Golf Channel. Golf made its return to the Olympics for the first time in over 100 years in 2016 and was approved to be part of the upcoming 2020 Games’ program.
“Golf, as one of the 28 sports, is excited about the opportunity that this creates for the continued development and growth of our sport around the world,” said the International Golf Federation in a statement. “We look forward to building upon the success of golf’s return to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and working with the organizing committee of Paris 2024 to create a memorable experience for our athletes and fans, and a lasting legacy for golf.”
