A Good Start for Ketut
The Indonesian Golf Tour held its opening tournament at Matoa Golf Nasional. I Ketut Sugiarta returned in top form to claim his third IGT title.
Having recovered from back pain he was suffering from in December, I Ketut Sugiarta began the new season of the Indonesian Golf Tour looking strong. His condition had limited his performance in the previous two events but the 42-year-old seemed to be back to his full playing ability, winning the first event of the Tour, the Top Skor Golf Invitational at Matoa Golf Nasional.
Ketut, who entered the final round one stroke behind leader Sanusi, managed to close the day at the top of the leaderboard with a total of 209, to win his third IGT title.
"I actually was not playing good, especially my chip shot. However, my green in regulation was pretty good. So, it helped me to claim the title," said Ketut, who scored a total of seven under par in the three day event and won over Syukrizal by one stroke.
Ketut grabbed his two previous IGT titles in 2014, and interestingly, it was at Matoa that he won the first. This time around, Ketut had only been aiming for a high position finish, so the win came as a bonus for him. ”I'm happy to win here. My goal was actually to maintain a position in the top five," he remarked.
Ketut is aware that he’s now competing against younger players who have begun to show great talent and skill, including second place finisher Syukrizal. “I’m glad that we have so many talented young players who can continue the senior’s efforts in the international events,” added Ketut.
Syukrizal, who pushed Ketut to work hard for his victory over the final 18 holes, was satisfied with second position. It’s the highest achievement of the Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam player in the four months since he turned pro last year.
“For me, the result in the three day event was extraordinary. I've been able to adapt to competition in a professional atmosphere," stated the 25-year-old.
