Innovation without Boundaries
In mid-October, Leonian Thailand held the launch of the new Callaway hybrid and iron products: Epic Hybrids and Irons. The launch event took place at Panya Indra Golf Club, Bangkok, Thailand, on October 19.
With the date being just a week before the cremation of the beloved King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej, all guests wore black as an expression of mourning for the late King who died in October last year. The event began with a memorial ceremony and a moment of silence with a brief video of the King's life journey.
Takao Kurashima, Senior Director for Sales & Business Planning of Callaway Golf Japan, opened the launch of Epic hybrids and Irons. “We continue to develop and improve the technology. Epic is the innovation technology of Callaway. The innovation is beyond the boundaries of time, material and performance to deliver a higher level of distance, control, and versatility” said Takao.
Vidur Kumar, Key Account Manager for South East Asia Distributor Callaway India, explained the advantages of Epic Irons and Hybrid. “Epic is the first hybrid to incorporate Callaway’s revolutionary triaxial carbon crown, while Epic Irons use our most ultra-premium materials and advance our revolutionary technologies to create the highest level of ball speed, forgiveness, and performance we've ever had in a Callaway Iron,” said Kumar.
The event was attended by journalists and a number of professional players, including Phachara Khongwatmai, who is sponsored by Callaway, and Thammanoon Sriroj. Some of Thailand's top amateur players were also present at the launch. One of them, Atthaya Thitikul, was a gold medal winner at the SEA Games and the youngest winner of the 2017 Ladies European Thailand Championship. After a presentation and demonstration of the clubs on the driving range, the players and members of the media had a chance to try out the clubs for themselves.
The Epic Hybrid is the next generation of hyper-speed face cup. The clubface of Hybrid uses Forged 455 steel which is ultra-thin and ultra-fast, pushing the COR measurement right up to the USGA limit for speed, while the crown uses Triaxial Carbon which is 65% lighter than titanium. The clubhead’s frame consists of high-grade steel that provides a robust structure for the crown and face while concentrating weight in key areas of the perimeter to maximize MOI and forgiveness. The low-friction sole with dual raised rails is designed to glide smoothly across turf and through rough to promote solid contact from a multitude of lies.
Meanwhile, the Epic Irons claims to be the best performance irons in Callaway history. The irons utilize the next generation of 360 Face Cup-Variable Face Thickness providing the best combination of ball speed, distance, forgiveness, accuracy, control, and feel. The Face Cup incorporates an ultra-thin rim around the perimeter of the inner side of the face. At impact, the rim flexes and rebounds to add ball speed on center-face hits and minimize ball-speed loss on off-center hits. It’s especially effective on the most common miss-hits: toward the toe and low on the face.
