AP1 & AP2 Merging
The Titleist 718 iron family has a new member. The brand new model is called the AP3. The iron has emerged from the advancement of the AP1 and AP2 irons to become one of the longest and fastest player’s iron ever.
The iron offers distance and forgiveness with feel and looks similar to AP2. With a classic and elegant “muscleback” rounded mid-mallet, the AP3 features wrap-around face-sole technology and a completely solid stainless steel flange.
The 718 AP3 hollow-blade construction combined with a thin, unsupported L-Face insert launches the ball long and high with shot-stopping spin – even on longer shots. With the high-MOI design – with an average of 84.9 grams of tungsten per head, placed low and in the toe of the long and mid irons – the iron produces higher ball speeds across the face, providing the off-center distance performance of a game improvement iron.
Compared to the 716 AP2 7-iron, the 718 AP3 7-iron is claimed to provide 3.1mph more ball speed, a slightly lower launch, and nine more yards of carry distance.
